SMS permits the sending of short messages (commonly known as text messaging) between mobile phones, other handheld devices and even landline phones. IVR allows a person, typically a telephone caller, to select an option from a voice menu and interact with a computer system that plays pre-recorded voice messages. These messages prompt the caller to press a number on a phone keypad to select an option, and speak simple answers or numbers in answers to voice prompts.
